]]>The popular Filipino supermarket chain, a Filipino-American owned company, opened its first store in Canada in 2017 in Mississauga, Ontario. The Winnipeg branch will be the second store in Canada.
Winnipeggers expect a majority of Filipino seafood favorites fresh from the Philippines like Bangus (milkfish) and grocery products from the Philippines. It will also carry Chinese and Japanese products.
What we love the most is the food court style set-up of the supermarket, you can enjoy Grill City, Noodle Street, and Crispy Town menu at a reasonable price. If you haven’t experienced it, try to spare some time and check out the Seafood City Supermarket.
Seafood City Supermarket is located at 2311 McPhillips St, Winnipeg. Store Hours: 9AM to 9PM.
The company also announced on their Facebook page a Grand Opening day promo. The promo a “$1 na 15lb calrose rice to the first 200 customers in line! Yay!“.

]]>Seafood City is an Asian/Filipino supermarket. It was established in 1989 with 24 stores (and counting) across Southern and Northern California, Nevada, Washington State, Hawaii, Illinois and Mississauga, Ontario.
According to a spokesperson for Garden City Shopping Centre:
“The former Sears location will be reformatted to accommodate a second large format tenant in addition to Seafood City, and the remaining space will become home to smaller stores”.
“A new entrance fronting onto McPhillips Street will also be created as part of the renovation.”
Global News Winnipeg also reported the opening of Seafood City Supermarket Winnipeg,
“About 57,000 people of Filipino descent live in Winnipeg, making it the largest Filipino population by percentage in Canada. The addition of the supermarket comes on the heels on the opening of two Jollibee locations in the city, a Philippines-based fast-food chain.”

]]>The first store in Jollibee in Canada was a big hit during the Holiday Season. Even though the weather hit -42C, Filipino Community in Winnipeg battles the cold weather and queue up for a ticket as early as 2:30AM.
Please be advised that effective January 2, 2017, Jollibee Winnipeg will no longer issue queuing tickets. Customers will be accommodated on a first-come, first-server basis for a maximum food purchase of $50.00.
Business hours are from 7:00am to 10:00pm Monday to Sunday!

1. The first customer of Jollibee Canada – a Father & Son tandem! Jason Ladera and his son Wilfred, braving the -37C Winterpeg weather and line-up as early as 10:30PM (December 14).
When asked why it was important for him to be first in line, his answer was simple: “I miss home. I miss Jollibee.”
2. Alpha Sawit-Barcega, the first customer on the second day, Jollibee store is just five minutes away from her home.
According to her, when you’ve been away from the Philippines for as long as she has — 19 years in her case — you really crave for the taste of Jollibee. In her own words, “Talagang hahanap-hanapin mo yung lasa ng Jollibee!”
3. Rowena Enriquez, lived in Winnipeg for five years with her husband, according to her, #1stJollibeeInCanada feels like a true blessing for their young family.
4. Princess Magnaye was just a Kid when she came to Winnipeg. That’s why on Jollibee’s grand opening day, she lined up with her boyfriend, Emmanuel Baldon, at 4AM at the #1stJollibeeInCanada.
5. 36 years ago, Cristeta Monte and her sister Ligaya Monte, left the Philippines to make a living abroad but they never forget Jollibee.
6. Lindsay Stasiuk is a Canadian with Kids who are half-Filipino, lined up early at the #1stJollibeeInCanada to get Jollibee takeout for her kids.
“My kids are half-Filipino,” she said, “but they’ve never had Jollibee before.” And with the opening of the store so close to home, she wanted to give them their first taste of the Philippines’ jolliest food.
7. Korina Santos was a teenager when she moved to Winnipeg. Growing up in Manila, she loved going to Jollibee and eating all her favorites, especially the Jolly Spaghetti!
8. Mark Pasquel beat the clock at 10PM to get Chicken joy for his family!
Take a look at our last customer for today, Mark Pasquel, who got in just in time to stock up on Jollibee staples for his family… and at 10PM, no less! ? Though it’s been seven years since their last jolly meal in the Philippines, they can be sure that the first bite of Jollibee goodness will transport them back to the old days.
